Penang Island is extremely popular for a place which is famous for is cathedrals, shops, government offices, cages and historical monuments.

The lively town has a mixed culture and makes for an extremely tourist spot. The place is locally famous as Georgetown and is the location for the renowned Jubilee Clock Tower in Penang. (Also known as Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower).

The Jubilee Clock Tower is located at the junction of the Lebuh Light and Lebuh Pantai and is symbolical of the long rule of Queen Victoria. The clock tower was presented to Penang by local millionaire Cheah Chen Eok in 1897 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

It towers 60 feet in high – one foot for each year of Her Majesty's reign. The Queen had died by the time the clock tower was finally completed in 1920. The Moorish style clock tower is 60 feet in height and behind the tower one can have a view of the wall surrounding fort Cornwallis. The Clock tower comprises of four tiers and the clock is placed in the third tier.

If you can view it from far and you will realized that the Clock Tower is leans to one side. That's the legacy of all the bombs dropped around it during the Second World War that destroyed the Government Building nearby.

In addition to the Clock Tower, the other legacy of Cheah Chen Eok is the Moon Gate on the way to the Penang Botanical Gardens.
