Passengers arriving at / departing from Penang International Airport have a choice of public transport available. There are taxis, of course, but there are also 3 bus routes taking visitors to / from the capital city. The Rapid Penang bus services has its own bus counter on the ground level of the arrivals hall and a ticket for bus line U401 costs around RM2.00 - RM3.00.

The Penang International Airport is served by Rapid Penang Bus 102, 401, and 401E stop at the terminal building of the airport. Rapid Penang Route 102, relaunched on 15 March 2010, links the airport with the beach belt of Batu Ferringhi. The bus will stop at a number of halts until it gets to KOMTAR, from where a 5 to 10 minute walk will take visitors to hotels like the Tune Hotel. Due to the many stops, this service can be a lot slower.

Grab & Other E-Hailing Services

Penang International Airport provides a complimentary waiting area for e-hailing drivers, located just five minutes from the terminal. To reach the e-hailing pickup point, exit Door 1 from the arrival hall, cross the road to the Multilevel Car Park, enter the building, turn right, and proceed to the designated area to meet your driver.

A Grab ride from the airport to George Town costs around RM30, while a regular taxi is about RM50. For a more budget-friendly option, the airport bus costs approximately RM3 but takes significantly longer.

For travelers arriving from the mainland, direct taxi and e-hailing services / GRAB are available between Penang Sentral and Penang International Airport, ensuring a convenient journey.

Taxis Services

The airport taxi (white color taxi) services at the Penang International Airport operate using a prepaid coupon system. Passengers are advised to purchase the coupon at the taxi counters available at arriving hall before taking taxi at taxi stands. The taxi driver issues a counterfoil to confirm that the transaction has been concluded, when he/she delivers the passenger safely to their destination. This system is designed to reassure foreign travellers, who might be worried that due to language difficulties they might not negotiate the correct fare.

City taxis are not allowed to pick up passengers in the Airport.

The fare depends on destination and there are 7 different zones. Zone 1 costs around RM14, Zone 2 will cost around RM22 and Zone 5 (George Town) will cost around RM38. During 12.00 am and 6.00 am passengers will have to pay a 50% surcharge for taxi services, regardless of destination.

There are direct taxi services between Penang Sentral and Penang International Airport for the passengers arriving from various places from peninsular.
