Gurney Paragon Mall, an upcoming beachfront lifestyle mall in Penang, is set
to open its doors along the picturesque Gurney Drive. Spanning an expansive
700,000 square feet, this mixed development project is reminiscent of Kuala
Lumpur's The Gardens @ Mid Valley. It encompasses a lifestyle mall, an outdoor
dining strip, an office tower, and two luxury apartment blocks.
The completion of Phase 1 of Gurney Paragon Mall took place in December 2011,
featuring a selection of trendy al fresco restaurants and bars. The remaining
sections of the mall are scheduled to open in early 2013. The outdoor dining
stretch of the mall, known as St. Jo's, is nestled within a meticulously
restored heritage building called St. Joseph's Novitiate. The mall's
architectural style draws inspiration from the colonial design of the chapel
within the heritage building.
Gurney Paragon Mall exhibits a captivating fusion of vintage charm and
contemporary sophistication. St. Jo's, the mall's outdoor dining strip,
colloquially referred to as 'The Esplanade', houses a variety of themed
restaurants and modern bars. Each dining venue is housed within the exquisite
colonial structure, with tables extending onto the sidewalk. Families will find
it particularly appealing, as the esplanade's beachfront location ensures
refreshing breezes throughout the day.
Getting There
To reach Gurney Paragon Mall, you can access it via Gurney Drive and Kelawai
Road. It is situated between Gurney Park and Regency condominiums on one side,
and Loke Mansion on the other. While Rapid Penang Bus 304 passes along Gurney
Drive, it does not directly pass in front of the condominium. However, buses 103
and 104 traverse Kelawei Road, providing convenient transportation options for
visitors.
