Gurney Plaza

Gurney Plaza, a prominent shopping mall on Penang Island, caters to a
discerning customer base. Situated along the renowned Gurney Drive, facing the
North Channel, the mall is owned by CapitaLand, a leading property company based
in Singapore, known for its extensive presence in Southeast Asia.
With a substantial lettable area of 708,000 square feet, Gurney Plaza stands as
the second largest shopping mall on Penang Island, surpassed only by Queensbay
Mall. Since its opening in November 2001, Gurney Plaza has flourished with over
300 outlets. The mall's anchor tenant is Parkson Grand, complemented by a
diverse range of stores including MPH Book Store, Popular Books, Toys R Us,
British India, Coffee Bean, Giordano, McDonald's, Nando's, Leonard Drake, GNC,
SUB, Reject Shop, Starbucks, Body Shop, Timberland, and various other upscale
retailers. Additionally, Cold Storage operates a supermarket on the basement
level, providing convenience for shoppers.
GSC Cinemas, boasting 12 halls, is Gurney Plaza's major cineplex. It is the
second largest multiplex operated by Golden Screen Cinemas in Malaysia,
following the one at Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, which has 18 halls.
Notably, GSC Cinemas at Gurney Plaza is the first multiplex in northern Malaysia
to feature THX-certified halls and an 80-seater premiere class hall.
In terms of updates, starting from August 2012, patrons have the option to use
Touch-n-Go stored-value cards for parking payment at Gurney Plaza, albeit with a
10% surcharge on the parking fee. Furthermore, in December 2008, Gurney Plaza
unveiled its new wing, a seven-storey extension that added 150,000 square feet
of retail space and 800 parking bays, contributing to its status as the premier
retail destination on Penang Island. The expansion allowed Parkson Grand, the
anchor tenant, to occupy additional floors within the mall, reinforcing its
presence. Noteworthy additions to Gurney Plaza included the second outlet of
Sakae Sushi on Penang Island, A&W, Dell store, and Switch Apple store. The old
wing welcomed Living Quarters from Metrojaya, marking its debut in Penang.
Getting There
To reach Gurney Plaza, visitors can access it via Gurney Drive and Kelawai Road.
The mall provides parking on two basement levels and two upper levels (8th and
